Yes, We Watched the Dirty Jobs Episode Too
While watching the episode, all we could think about was the image it might leave in hunters’ minds—that every deer urine collection facility must operate the same way.
They don’t.
Every farm has its own process, and we are not here to criticize another company for doing things its way. That is their operation and their story.
This is ours.
We simply want our customers to know that what they saw on television is very different from how we operate at Lip Curl Scents.
More Than a Collection Facility
Long before our first overnight collection, we spent years thinking about how this facility should be built.
We didn’t just ask, “How can we collect deer urine?”
We asked:
How do we protect the integrity of every collection from the very beginning?
How do we prevent urine from ever contacting exposed, porous concrete?
How do we keep solid waste separated before the urine reaches the collection container?
How do we thoroughly clean the environment without introducing chemical cleaning agents?
How do we identify and track every individual collection?
How do we keep our deer comfortable, calm and cared for throughout the night?
And how do we protect everything we worked for until the finished product arrives at a customer’s door or is placed in the woods?
Every thought, every angle and every decision mattered to us.
It still does.
Designed to Protect Every Collection
Our collection facility was purposefully designed with a thick, nonporous surface protecting the graded concrete underneath. The urine never comes into contact with exposed concrete, where it could be absorbed or affect a future collection.
Our system separates solid waste before the urine reaches the clean collection container.
Every collection is then double filtered as an additional safeguard against something as small as an insect or a granule of feed finding its way into the container.
After each overnight collection, the stalls are thoroughly washed using only tap water and a pressure washer. Because of the way we designed the facility, chemical cleaning agents are not needed or introduced into the collection environment.
This did not happen by accident.
It was considered before the facility was built because protecting the integrity of the product after collection was never going to be good enough for us.
We wanted to protect it from the moment it left the deer.
We Know Where Every Collection Comes From
Every collection is immediately labeled with the individual deer’s identity, the date and the time.
It is evaluated and tracked before being bottled fresh that same day.
That individual tracking also allows us to follow where each doe is within her estrous cycle instead of treating every collection as if it were exactly the same.
We know which deer provided it.
We know when it was collected.
We know how it was handled.
That level of care and accountability follows the product from our farm to your door and, ultimately, into your woods.
Because when a hunter puts trust in the Lip Curl name, we believe that trust deserves more than something simply labeled “real deer urine.”
It deserves our very best.
Their Comfort Comes First
The care of our deer was never an afterthought in the design of this facility.
It was just as important as the collection itself.
Our deer only spend the overnight hours in the collection stalls. They go in during the evening and come back out the following morning.
While they are there, they have air conditioning, heat when needed, automatic fresh water, feed, a radio playing and plenty of attention.
They get cookies when they go in and cookies when it is time to come back out.
Honestly, we may have made them a little too comfortable. Some mornings, we practically have to get into the stall behind them and give them a gentle nudge because they are in no hurry to leave.
That may not sound like an important product detail, but it is important to us.
These deer are not inventory or nameless sources of an ingredient. They are animals we have raised, cared for, worried over and loved. We know them individually, and their comfort and well-being will always matter more than any product they provide.
From the Deer to Your Door to Your Woods
Our responsibility does not end when the urine reaches the collection container.
It continues through separation, filtration, identification, evaluation, bottling, refrigeration, storage and delivery.
The same care carries into every Lip Curl Scents product we create.
We think about what goes into it.
We think about how it will be stored.
We think about how it will be used.
We think about the hunter spending hard-earned money on it.
And we think about what we would expect if we were the customer opening that package or carrying that product into the woods.
We are hunters, deer farmers and small-business owners. This is not a product made somewhere else with a Lip Curl label placed on it.
It begins here, with deer we raise and care for, on the farm where we live and work.
Some Parts of Our Process Have to Remain Ours
People have asked why we don’t invite Dirty Jobs to our farm and show everyone how our facility operates.
The truth is, our collection facility probably would not make a very dramatic episode.
It was intentionally designed not to be dirty.
We are proud of what we built, but we will not publicly show every detail of the system we spent years developing. Some parts of our process have to remain ours.
That does not mean we will hide the standards behind our products.
Our customers deserve to know what matters:
Solid waste is separated before the urine reaches the collection container.
The urine does not contact exposed, porous concrete.
Every collection is double filtered.
Each collection is individually identified, dated, timed, evaluated and tracked.
It is bottled fresh that same day.
The environment is thoroughly washed without chemical cleaning agents.
And the deer providing it are comfortable, cared for and loved.
Our Promise
One television episode cannot represent every deer farm, every collection facility or every bottle of real deer urine.
Different facilities have different processes.
This is ours.
We built it with intention. We operate it with care. We continue looking at every detail because there is always something to learn and always a way to protect what matters.
From the moment it leaves the deer’s bladder until it arrives at your door or is placed in your woods, every step matters to us.
Every deer matters.
Every collection matters.
Every product matters.
Every customer matters.
That is the standard behind Lip Curl Scents—and we are proud to put our name on it.
